                                    November 2011

Yes, we made it through October without any snow and it sounds like the harvest is coming to an end. It will be time to celebrate and what better way than to help us celebrate our fourth anniversary of opening up our shop to you. It’s a special time as Jeanette and our family reflect back on my desire to open a wine shop that was unique to Norfolk and all of Nebraska. It’s been a pleasure to work with you on your special occasions, to see the excitement of your wedding plans, wine tasting birthday parties or just having your family get-togethers for the holidays. Remember I’m here to help you and my desire of our mission statement still holds true:

Jim’s Fine Wine & More brings people together, because good wine inspires hope, and comforts the soul. It invites us to savor the simple pleasures of living. This remains important to us as we serve each and every one of you.

This will be an exciting month as we celebrate our FOURTH anniversary with three special wine events. I’ll also be celebrating tasting at different locations to help kickoff the holiday season in the area. I’ll also be releasing the Beaujolais Nouveau this month with a special tasting so make sure you order your Beaujolais before it’s gone.

                                    _Winery of the Month:
                                    Estancia Winery

Roughly translated from the Spanish word for “estate,” Estancia’s name emphasizes their founder, Augustin Huneeus’ conviction that the world’s best wines capture the essence of their place of origin.

Started in 1986, Augustin established Estancia Winery in the cool climate of Monterey, planting the Pinnacles Vineyards to Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. In 1999, almost 700 acres in Paso Robles were purchased as the vineyard base for Estancia Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Zinfandel and Meritage. Today, their founder’s terroir-based belief continues with controlled framing practices and company-wide commitment to high quality at an affordable price.

Cabernet Sauvignon from Paso Robles: This emerging region is ideal for producing grapes that result in complex and delicious Cabernet displaying intense dark fruit flavors followed by a long, rich finish. Growing conditions in Paso Robles are extreme-temperature swings are greater here than in any other California appellation. This wine has flavors of dark cherry, currants and chocolate, with dense, full body, good structure and a nice, lingering finish. Aged fourteen months in oak.

Pinot Noir from Monterey County: Cooled by ocean breezes from Monterey Bay and aided by well-drained decomposed granite soils, Monterey County is one of California’s ideal growing regions for Pinot Noir, and with hand-crafted approach results in Pinot Noir with, soft, luscious aromas and flavor and rich, deep color. The wine shows rich, concentrated fruit balanced by elegant tannins and a lingering silky finish. Aged ten months in oak.

Chardonnay from Monterey: The cool climate and sandy, well-drained soils keep yields low and fruit intensity high. These ideal conditions produced beautiful, classic characteristics in this Monterey Chardonnay. The result is a complex and balanced wine brimming with vibrant tropical notes accented by a soft, creamy finish.
